Win a place at the Riverside Theatre's summer school

DO you dream of following in the footsteps of local actors Jayne Wisener and Jimmy Nesbitt?

Then why not take part in the Riverside Theatre's summer school.

Of course Jimmy and Jayne have both performed on stage at the Cromore Road theatre, and both have very fond memories of their time there.

This exciting summer school programme has been running since 2006 and has been expanding successfully year on year.

From July 1 to July 10, the final year of the summer school with Bruiser Theatre Company reaches a conclusion, with a performance combining text and physical theatre techniques.

There are still a few places up for grabs, for more information contact Sharon Kirk on 7032 3037 or email [email protected].

The course itself specialises in physical theatre and the skills of Commedia dell'Arte, a stylized form of drama, in which the movements and gestures of each character denote a fool, a thief, a master etc.

Both music and dance were central to Commedia dell'Arte and these two additional elements are strong features of Bruiser Theatre Company productions.

Artistic Director Lisa May has developed a very specialized and easily accessible style of drama, taking complex scripts and adapting them to the physical theatre style.

She regularly works on productions for other companies and recently won "Woman of the Year in the Arts" Award from the Belfast Telegraph.

It is a huge coup for Riverside that she will instruct the participants herself in this final year of the Summer School programme
