Walking to and from school in the dark winter mornings and evenings can be very dangerous for young children.

The longer periods of darkness in the mornings and evenings, as well as poorer weather conditions, mean the risks of being involved in a road traffic collision are heightened.

It is really important that all pedestrians take precautions and wear high visibility clothing to help them be seen on the roads.

It’s also really important for drivers to make sure their vision is up to scratch before getting behind the wheel.

Everyone should be safe, be bright, be seen.

In a road safety first, Specsavers in Coleraine has teamed up with The Coleraine Timesthis week to giveaway 200 high visibility vests to primary schools and local community groups to help make the walk home from school safer this winter.

If you would like to win a set of 30 ‘high vis’ vests for your class at primary school or your local youth group simply answer the question below and email your answer with your name and contact details to The Coleraine Times at [email protected] before Friday, December 4.

And if you’re a driver don’t forget to get your eyes examined very two years.
