Winning effort from Loreto College pupils

PUPILS from Loreto College Coleraine, have been rewarded for some excellent work in support of National No Smoking Day, through participation in a local competition organized by Coleraine Borough Council.

The competition, which was aimed at Year 10 students, asked students to design a resource based on the ‘Breaking the chain of smoking’ theme for No Smoking Day.

The competition judges requested posters, poetry, songs, art sculptures or displays.

The pupils of 10A produced a wonderful array of resources, including a clever 3D sculpture which depicted enormous papier mache cigarettes formed into a chain, to represent the imprisonment of addiction.

They also wrote and illustrated poems to form a background display to accompany and contextualise their sculpture.

Taking first prize in the competition, the pupils were rewarded with a cash award for the school and the honour of having their work on display in the Diamond Centre, Coleraine.

Prinicpal, Brian Lenehan, congratulated the members of this creative and enterprising Year 10 class, and their teachers Mrs McCool, Mr Cunning and Miss McGarvey, on this tremendous success.
