Winning gold star feastfit for Count Dracula film

Ann’s Pantry came home from the competition in Somerset with accolades for their boiled cake; speltmeal soda; all-butter shortbread; oatmeal biscuit and spelt Christmas pudding.

This is the fourth year that the Main Street bakery has picked up the prestigious awards.

Baker John Agnew appreciates the rigours of the judging process.

Indeed he was invited to be a judge in the Dublin based competition alongside Masterchef guest judge Charles Campion.

John said: “To get one star, a food item has to be passed by eight judges.

“There are four judges to a table in a room of 12 tables. To get three stars, something has to go round all the judges.

“It was quite humbling to see how hard it is to get three stars. Two years ago, we got three stars for two products.”

Such is the appeal of the bread that it is set to appear in a new film after being spotted on sale at St. George’s Market.

Thirty loaves were ordered by a set decorator for “Dracula Year Zero” being filmed on location in Belfast.
