Woman attacked in Monkstown Wood

Police investigating an attempted robbery in Monkstown Wood on Wednesday afternoon (May 21) have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Shortly after 12pm it was reported that a 32-year-old woman was walking her dog in the area when she was approached from behind by an unknown male. The male grabbed her by the hair and pushed her to the ground. It is believed he demanded money and the woman’s phone during the incident, but made off empty handed

The would-be robber is described as 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build and was wearing a dark blue hoodie, dark tracksuit bottoms and white trainers. It is thought that he may have been bitten by the woman’s dog.

A PSNI spokesperson said that enquiries into the incident are continuing and appealed for anyone with information to contact officers at Newtownabbey Police Station on the new non-emergency number, 101.
