Woman cashed benefit cheque

After claiming that a benefit cheque had not arrived a Lurgan woman was issued with a replacement cheque.

But it was later discovered that she had cashed both cheques.

Thirty six year old Amanda Copeland, Shankill Street, Lurgan, was put on probation for 12 months last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

She admitted making a false statement on December 18 last year to obtain Employment Support Allowance of £103.06.

The court heard that she report her allowance cheque had not arrived and a replacement was issued.

The original was cashed through a bank and Copeland admitted she had cashed the replacement along with the original.

The court heard her record contained a relevant similar matter.
