Woman charged with manslaughter of Bertie Acheson

DETECTIVES from THE PSNI Serious Crime Branch have charged a 23 year old woman with the manslaughter of Coleraine man Bertie Acheson.

She is due to appear at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Earlier this month a 39 year old man arrested in the greater Belfast area was released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detectives from Serious Crime Branch had taken the suspect to Antrim police station for questioning. Police also searched a property in Antrim.

72 year old Mr Acheson died following a confrontation with an intruder at his home in Glenmore Gardens in Coleraine in the early hours of 30 April this year.

The woman charged in connection with his death turned 23 on Wednesday.

As is normal procedure the charge will be reviewed by the PPS.
