Woman did not realise her insurance policy had expired

A 24-year-old woman who had not realised her insurance had been cancelled was given six points last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for driving while uninsured.

Gemma Vong, whose address was given as Downshire Avenue, Lurgan, was also fined £65 and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

For not having a valid test certificate she was given a conditional discharge for 12 months.

The court heard that a police mobile patrol stopped her during the afternoon of January 28 this year.

Checks revealed there was no insurance in place and the test certificate had expired.

She told police that her partner took care of the car and she thought she was covered.

The insurance had been cancelled in October last year due to a non payment.

Vong was offered a fixed penalty but could not take this up because she was unable to locate her licence at the time.
