Woman hurt in A50 collision

The mother of four was on her way to work in Craigavon at the time of the collision, during which she was trapped inside her burning Renault Scenic.

And, while previous reports indicated both drivers had been treated for injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening, Mrs Wills’ family disclosed she suffered multiple breaks and fractures and internal bleeding.

She was taken to Intensive Care at Craigavon Area Hospital before later tranfer to Belfast’s Royal Victoria Hospital, where she was due to undergo surgery last week.

Her family has since praised a local resident who tried to bring the blaze under control.

“We are so grateful to the person who pulled Gwen from the car,” a family member said. “We believe they saved her life and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for being so courageous.”

The family likewise praised emergency services, a doctor who treated Mrs Wills at the roadside and medical staff at Craigavon Area Hospital and the Royal Victoria Hospital.

They had been overwhelmed, they said, by messages of support and prayers offered in local churches.
