Woman in court for assault on police

When she mistakenly thought her friend was being arrested a Lurgan woman assaulted two police officers.

Abbie McPoland (18), Dill Avenue, was fined £75 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court on each of two charges of assaulting a police officer.

She was also given conditional discharges for 12 months of disorderly behaviour and obstructing police on January 4 this year.

Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said that her friend, had become embroiled in a street fight. He added that the friend had been put in the back of the police car to be taken home and McPoland mistakenly thought police were arresting her.
