SDLP councillor Malachy Quinn said the motorist involved suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Speaking about the incident, he said: “I urge all drivers to take care on the roads over the summer period and to be alert for any spillages, especially on our rural roads. “I was contacted by a constituent whose car has been wrecked due to sliding of the road causing her minor injuries because of spillage, thankfully she was driving slow at the time or otherwise the injuries could have been much worse,” he added.

“It is important that everyone is vigilant and alert to the dangers on our roads and to report any problems to the road service so it can be cleaned up. “I also want to ask farmers to be careful when transporting slurry and other substances on the road - to make sure they are contained and not creating hazardous conditions for other road users.

“It is (also) important all drivers take care for walkers and children during the summer months as I have had calls about speeding drivers across Torrent and near misses with cars.
