At approximately 6.35pm it was reported that a woman was driving her black Vauxhall Zafira in the area.

When she slowed down, three males approached the car.

The three males all had their faces covered with scarves. One of the males demanded that she get out of the car and it is thought that he may have been armed with a knife.

The three males made off in the car which was later found on fire in the Summerhill Road area.

The woman was not injured in the incident but was left badly shaken.

“A fella just appeared at the side of the car and opened the door and shouted at me to get out,” said the woman, who did not wish to be identified.

“He had something in his hand, it looked like a knife. I just panicked and got out of the car.

“Then he was away in the car. There was two fellas hovering behind him and they were away as well. I couldn’t believe how quick it happened.

“I couldn’t get over that. Why steal a car and just burn it?

“I’m really in shock. Anything could have happened to me standing there. They could have come back. I was there by myself, there was nobody there to help me. I would be very afraid to drive out by myself anywhere.”

Anyone who may have seen the car in the area or who knows anything about this incident is asked to contact CID at Lisburn Police Station on the non-emergency number 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
