The court heard how police were called to a shop following the outbreak of a verbal argument.

Siobhan Marie McNally, 29, from Garvaghy Crescent in Portglenone, had followed another shopper into another establishment two doors down on the afternoon of March 17 and slapped the man in the face.

Her solicitor told the court that her client was “deeply apologetic” and described how the injured party had served time in prison for abusing Ms McNally.

He said on this occasion he provoked her and made threats causing her to have a “completely emotional reaction”.

He said that this was the first time that Ms McNally had seen him since the case and had not even known that he was out of prison.

District Judge Bonita Boyd handed down a six month probation order for the offence.
