Woman thrown to ground in attempted robbery in Whitehead

Police are appealing for information following the report of an attempted robbery of a woman in the Adelaide Avenue area of Whitehead last night (Thursday, September 17).

Sergeant Brian Caskey said: “Shortly before 10.00pm police received a report that as a woman was walking along the street an unknown male approached her from behind and grabbed her demanding that she hand over money. The woman struggled with the man who then threw her to the ground. It is believed he made off in the direction of Alexandra Avenue.”

The man is described as being in his late teens/early twenties, approximately 5’10” tall, thin build with a slim face, wearing a maroon hooded top with cream writing/logo on it with cream laces in the hood and blue jeans.

Sgt Caskey added: “The woman was not injured, however she was left very badly shaken.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact police at Larne on the non-emergency number 101.

“Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
