Minister Poots said: “I am pleased to host today’s event and take this opportunity to formally acknowledge the volunteers who play an extremely important role in protecting our coastline, rivers and loughs. The number of nominees reflects how highly most of us value our environment.

“The sooner everyone else gets the message and stops littering, the better. The rubbish that ends up on our shores doesn’t just threaten wildlife, it also takes away from the visual pleasure that we all get from a day at the seaside.”
