Women Aloud NI on the North Coast

Women Aloud NI is a one-day initiative which aims to raise the profile of the women's writing scene in Northern Ireland.

It was set up by Ballymoney-based author Jane Talbot, and will take place on International Women’s Day, Tuesday 8 March.

There’s forteen events taking place right across Northern Ireland, and two right here on the North Coast.

The events will involve more than 100 women writers reading their work – and talking about their work – in bookshops, libraries, museums, theatres, town halls, pubs and arts centres.

There will be two Women Aloud NI events taking place in the North Coast area.

Waterstones in Coleraine will be hosting 16 writers from the local area.

They will be reading and speaking between 10am and 4pm.

There’ll be an opportunity to listen to poetry, flash fiction, and excerpts from memoirs, short stories and novels.

The second event will take place at Portstewart Library from 10.30am - 12pm. Here, Ballymoney writer, Jane Talbot will be reading from, and talk about, her collection of dark faerie tales, The Faerie Thorn. Booking is required for this event.

It is hoped that the event will t is hoped that the Women Aloud NI project will raise the profile of the women’s writing in Northern Ireland and help writers (and writers’ groups) to strengthen their relationship with local readers, local booksellers, local libraries and local media.

It is also hoped that the event will help build an appetite for women’s writing in Northern Ireland.
