Women’s Aid moves to new base in Glengormley

Women’s Aid has moved its Newtownabbey office from Monkstown to new premises in Glengormley.

Women’s Aid is the lead agency offering support and refuge services to women and children who have or are currently experiencing domestic violence and abuse.

For almost six years, the organisation was based in Monkstown Village Centre, where the local and wider community were able to access support.

Continuing to develop its services in order to meet the needs of those who require support, Women’s Aid has now moved to larger premises at 5a Lesley House, 1-9 Carnmoney Road.

Ase McWilliams, Floating Support Worker for the Newtownabbey area said: “We hope these larger premises will help to develop service delivery and we remain committed to providing support to anyone who accesses our services across the whole of Newtownabbey.”

Grace McGurk, Community Resettlement Worker added: “Unfortunately recently released statistics indicate a continued increase in incidents of domestic violence and abuse in Northern Ireland which reflects the need for Women’s Aid to improve services in Newtownabbey.”

Support can be accessed locally by calling 07851 966517 or 07821 402024, the 24hr Domestic & Sexual Violence Helpline on 0808 802 1414 or by logging on to www.womens-aid.org.uk
