Women's group seek funding

A women's group established in Ballycastle more than two years ago is seeking new ways of sourcing funding

‘WHEN’ - Women’s Health and Education Network - provides an important outlet for women both socially and educationally and has gained much support since its inception.

Funding came from a Pharmacy Partnership, but the Group is facing up to the reality that money may not be available in the future.

That led to a meeting on Rathlin Island last week with another similar group from Toomebridge where the way forward was discussed.

Spokesperson Mary McAuley commented: “We have been very fortunate to have obtained grant aid on two separate occasions, but we need to look at ways of raising finance ourselves. Grants are drying up and our meeting on Rathlin addressed this.”

‘WHEN’ has enabled women who are either separated, divorced or widowed to come together and benefit from a range of activities. Monthly meetings have been held in Craft Connections where the core membership of ten have welcomed a variety of speakers and professional people engaged in the likes of Aromatherapy, Reflexology, etc.

The group has also had get togethers - every other week - in other people’s homes where sewing, knitting and crocheting takes place.

Mr. Damian McSorley of McCaughan’s Chemists has attended all meetings and has been of great help and assistance to the group who will, in the near future, extend a welcome to all women in the community.
