Women's Network announces installation of defibrillators in Garvagh

Two life-saving defibrillators have been installed in Garvagh Main Street following a fundraising campaign in the community.

Garvagh Women’s Network spearheaded the initiative that received “tremendous support and generosity” from the people of the village and surrounding area.

Announcing the installation of the equipment, GWN stated “The defibrillators are located on the walls of Eurospar and Spar, Main Street, Garvagh, and are both accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Although we hope that the defibrillators will never need to be used, members of the public should follow the steps below to access a defibrillator in an emergency: 1. Phone 999 and ask for an ambulance; 2. Give the location of the defibrillator box and the box number, which is written on the bottom right corner of the box; 3. The call handler will give a code; 4. Use the code to open the box; 5. Remove the defibrillator

“The defibrillators include easy-to-follow instructions and will talk users through the process. Users should follow instructions and continue to administer emergency first aid until an ambulance arrives.”

Garvagh Women’s Network extended thanks to Kenny Bradley of Spar and Eurospar for hosting the defibrillators on his store fronts; Tyrone Smyth, Oakleaf Training for his expertise, advice and training; local businesses and organisations: Scott Engineering, McAtamney’s, Wendy’s, Garvagh Clydesdale and Vintage Vehicle Club, Laverty’s Opticians, and private donors for their financial support; and members of the public who contributed so generously.

Funds raised will be used to continue to provide training for local residents and to maintain the defibrillators. GWN is a registered charity which offers a range of learning opportunities and activities within its premises and runs a weekly cross-community youth club, The Den, for children (4 – 13 years).
