‘Wonderful platform for success’

HAZELWOOD Integrated College students celebrated another phenomenal year of GCSE results.

Seventy per cent of students achieved five A* to C grades, which was a 16 per cent increase on last year’s results.

As a result of the school’s promotion of science, technology, engineering and mathmatics (STEM) subjects there was high achievement among pupils in technology and design, engineering and ICT subject areas.

Among the success there were 58 A* or A grades in science.

Indeed such has been the success of science at the school that in addition to single award A Level, a new double award subject has been created.

Principal Eileen Lenehan said she was delighted with the school’s success.

She said: “A new sixth form centre has been set up to cope with the increase in students wishing to study at Hazelwood post 16.

“Combined with this will be a STEM careers programme that concentrates on the new job opportunities in this area.
