Woodstock revisited set for St Columbs

ST Columbs Hall is set to hold an extravaganza of music performed by some of Londonderry's finest musicians all in tribute to music festival - Woodstock.

The cream of Londonderry's music scene will be taking to the St Columbs hall stage for a night dedicated to the 1969 festival in a follow-up to last year's successful 'First Waltz' tribute were over thirty local musicians paid homage to The Band's farewell show the 'Last Waltz'.

'Woodstock Revisited' is the brainchild of local music promoter Ryan O'Doherty of Assoicated Music Productions (AMP). AMP is promoting the Woodstock tribute following their success in promoting the 'First Waltz' event.

Ryan O'Doherty of AMP said, "Following the success of the First Waltz, the feedback we got from the musicians who played on the night, to the media, but especially from the people who attended the First Waltz was just unbelievable, we knew we had to come up with another event that could top it."

The original Woodstock festival saw the likes of such rock & roll legends as - Joe Cocker, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who and Jimi Hendrix take to the up-state New York stage in 1969.

The subsequent film about the 3 day festival was a major influence on O'Doherty who said that was "what swung it for us".

"I'm a huge fan of the Woodstock film, having the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Crosby, Stills & Nash and The Who all on the same bill is just mind-blowing. Woodstock keeps getting re-discovered by every new generation of musician and music fan and it holds as much water now as it did then.

"We knew that what ever we came up with had to top the 'First Waltz' after a few ideas I thought of Woodstock and the line-up that festival had so that's basically what swung it for us."

"When we were organising the First Waltz word got back to the city of culture team, they were really supportive of the event. What were trying to do is give local artists a chance to showcase their talents at a time when the city's in the spotlight for all the right reasons. We want to re-create the spirit of Woodstock." O'Doherty said.
