Work at road to start in 2016

MLA Brenda Hale said she had been lobbied by residents in the area, and said she hoped the necessary work would proceed at the ‘earliest opportunity’.

“Having been lobbied by residents of the Eglantine Road, Lisburn, with regards to the potential resurfacing of this road and in regards to drainage problems, I have been liaising with Transport NI and hope that action will be taken,” Mrs Hale said.

“I have been advised by Transport NI that a scheme to provide additional drainage, to strengthen and resurface the Eglantine Road from the church, to the joint of Northern Ireland Water’s scheme, has already been developed.

“I have further been advised that Transport NI regularly bid for additional funding throughout the year and should funding become available this financial year, a scheme may be programmed for early 2016.

“I also understand that should the resurfacing proceed as planned in 2016, that some of the grass verges may be repaired at that 
time.

“Transport NI have advised that any investigation work around the entrance to Lisburn Golf Club will require a road closure and it is therefore planned to undertake this work at the same time as the closures for resurfacing in order to minimise disruption to the public.

“I welcome this news and hope that this necessary work can proceed at the earliest opportunity.”
