Work begins on leisure centre improvements

WORK to improve the car park and entrance at the Valley Leisure Centre was scheduled to get under on Wednesday November 21, with the council warning of potential disruption to centre users during the works.

The work will include the removal of the security hut, creation of a new footpath from the bottom of the main car park up to the building entrance, as well as the installation new gates and a fence.

The project is designed to improve access to the facility as well as result in improvements to the swimming pool hall.

“During the period of the works, which will last until the end of January, no public vehicles (private cars or coaches) will be permitted within the area.

“Importantly, this includes no access to the disabled spaces. Four temporary disabled spaces are being created at the bottom end of the main car park, which is the closest available point outside the work area.

“Pedestrian access will be maintained to the centre at all times and the centre will remain open during the works,” a council spokesperson said.

“Re-tiling work is also being carried out in the swimming pool hall over the Christmas period and the pool will be closed from December 10 until January 6 inclusive,” she added.
