Work completed at accident blackspot

THE ROADS Service has completed work at a notorious accident blackspot on the Ballinderry Road.

Lagan Valley MLA Paul Givan and Killultagh Councillor James Tinsley welcomed the completion of the scheme which is designed to make the road both smoother and wider.

Over the last number of years the road has seen a substantial number of accidents.

Mr Givan said he was pleased the work was completed at a time when the Roads Service was facing financial restraints.

“I am pleased that following our representations and a meeting on site with the Section Engineer, Roads Service has now completed the improvements,” he said. “In the past couple of years there have been many road traffic accidents at this location and I welcome the introduction of signage to alert road users of the imminent bends.

“I am also glad that despite facing financial restraints the local Roads Service Section Office prioritised this scheme to enable such improvements to take place.”

Councillor Tinsley added: “The improvements to the surface of the Ballinderry Road will create a safer carriageway for motorists while also encouraging the reduction of speed at the section of bends.

“I welcome the completion of this work but would ask road users to exercise caution on the new surface as colder weather approaches.”
