Work finishes on Main Street improvements... but new parking restrictions anger traders

THE environmental improvement works on Ballyclare's Main Street are almost complete, and the traffic misery of the past three months should be at an end. However, now it seems some traders and shoppers aren't happy with the new on-street parking layout.

The 335,000 road and footpath resurfacing project, funded by the Department for Social Development and Newtownabbey Council, has been ongoing since January and came about following a similar 676,000 scheme around The Square last year. But changes to the permitted parking areas on Main Street seem to have angered several local business owners.

Councillor Vera McWilliam, Chair of the Town Centre Working Group, confirmed that some traders and shoppers are unhappy with the new parking arrangements.
