Work of famous Lisburn photographer celebratedin new exhibition

R-SPACE gallery in Lisburn’s Castle Street will be opening its third exhibition on Saturday January 28 - and it will be of special significance to co-director Anthea McWilliams.

Entitled ‘Harry Duff - A Photographic Memoir’ the exhibition highlights the celebrated, local and talented amateur photographer - who was also Anthea’s uncle.

“Harry Duff will be well known to many people in Lisburn, certainly in his role as Town Clerk until his retirement in the 1980s, but also as active in the Lisburn Camera Club, Historical Society, Rotary Club and the Youth Hostel Association NI,” explained Anthea.

“The exhibition will celebrate all aspects of his life and I’m particularly proud to present otherwise unseen Irish images and portraits from his extensive photographic archive which I have been responsible for since his death in 2001. This will represent a major retrospective of his work.”

Many of the black/white images were taken in the 1950/60s including candid shots of walkers in the Mournes, studio portraits of local women, people and families at play/work and his trademark landscape compositions including aspects of Lisburn.

Anthea and co-director Robert Martin have spent hours studying the negatives to select what they hope to be a enticing view into Harry’s life, as well as a tribute to his photographic prowess.

The exhibition runs from Saturday January 28 from 12 noon until Saturday March 3. Opening hours are Wednesday - Saturday from 11am until 5pm. Everyone is welcome and all the work will be for sale.
