Work on Ballinderry Road after spate of accidents

THE Department for Regional Development are carrying out work to make the Ballinderry Road in Lisburn safer after a series of accidents on one stretch of the road.

Their comments come after residents complained about the number of accidents on the short stretch of the road between the Ballinderry Road and Knockmore Road junction country bound.

One resident, who uses the road daily, said he has seen four accidents on the road where the vehicles involved have ended up in a nearby field.

“It just seemed there was a car which had crashed into the field every other week,” he said. “There was one just recently and that was only one of a series on the same stretch. There have been at least been four cars which have ended up in the field over the past year or so.”

A Roads Service spokesperson said work on the road will be completed by next month.

“Roads Service are currently carrying out works on the Ballinderry Road to alter the geometry of the bend,” he said. “Whilst works are in progress signs notifying drivers will remain in place.

“Completion date for work is anticipated to be mid October, weather permitting.”
