Work starts on improvements to Ballykeel junction

BALLYKEEL: MLA Paul Givan and Cllr Paul Stewart have welcomed news that an improvement scheme is to take place at the Ballykeel crossroads junctions outside Dromara.

Following a recent review of existing signage and road markings, the Roads Service has agreed to increase driver awareness measures at the junctions.

The two said: “The Ballykeel junctions at Howe Road, Magheraconluce Road and Ballynahinch Road have been the cause of many road traffic accidents over a number of years. Meetings have taken place on site with residents and Roads Service on numerous occasions and we welcome this latest proposal to go ahead with new safety measures.

“The scheme will include warning signs for Ballynahinch bound traffic, carriageway edge lines and ‘slow’ road markings on red surfacing.

“We hope these measures will alert drivers as they arrive at each junction and encourage a slower more cautious approach to be taken. It is our desire that drivers would be vigilant of other motorists and road users at all times especially these junctions which pose a particular danger. Roads Service advises that completion of this work will take approximately 4-6 weeks.”
