Work starts on new play area

ANAHILT: Lisburn City Council has started work on the new play area in Anahilt following an extensive public consultation process.

The new state of the art area will be located at the crossroads with the Glebe Road and the Ballynahinch Road.

Councillor Thomas Beckett, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure Services Committee, said: “I am very pleased that construction has commenced on this new play area, which will form an important part of the local community.

“The Council acquired the land from the Roads Service and secured part funding from Lagan Rural Partnership under DARD’s Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

“The state of the art play equipment which will be installed will be suitable for children aged between four and 14 years of age; and safety matting will be used.

“The Council is very keen to ensure that local communities within the Lisburn area have access to leisure facilities; and this play area is one of its newest capital development projects. It is delighted to have awarded a tender to the value of £83,000 to The Crawford Contracts Group to undertake the construction.

“I look forward to the project being completed by mid April and I hope that the local residents will enjoy using the new play area,” he concluded.
