Work to begin on extension at Carnmoney Cemetery
The land to be developed is below the existing Carnmoney Main Cemetery along the O’Neill Road and adjacent to the roundabout at Prince Charles Way.
According to the council, the additional space should extend the capacity for new burials at the cemetery for up to two years.

Hide AdAhead of the development works commencing on May 5, the council is advising visitors to Carnmoney Main Cemetery that although all graves will still be accessible on foot, parking in certain areas will be restricted.
Speaking about the upcoming works, Mayor Fraser Agnew said: “The council have in recent years had to look at all options for creating more burial space. Following ground investigation work carried out last year, planning approval has been given for the extension and the works are expected to be completed before the July holidays. Minimum disruption should occur, but visitors should keep in mind that car parking will be restricted in certain areas.”
The council is also reminding residents that graves cannot be pre-purchased and can only be acquired for imminent funerals.
