Work to begin on window replacement scheme

WORK is scheduled to get under way later this month on a window replacement scheme in the Bawnmore, Longlands and Rathcoole areas, the Housing Executive has confirmed.

Single glazed windows will be replaced with new uPVC double glazing at 245 properties, meaning tenants should benefit from greater energy efficiency, noise reduction as well as lower heating costs in their homes.

Welcoming the scheme, Sharon Crooks, local Housing Executive Manager commented: “This significant investment demonstrates our commitment to providing good quality, well maintained homes for our tenants in Newtownabbey. We will continue to liaise with tenants and their representatives to keep them informed of progress throughout the scheme and will work with our contractor to address any issues which may arise.

“The scheme is being carried out by Dixons and their representatives will be liaising with residents and the Housing Executive during the course of the scheme to ensure that the work achieves the high standards set and expected.”

Alliance councillor Billy Webb added: “I have been told by HIHE that their contractors will be on site from February 25 and that 245 properties will have their windows replaced with double glazed PVC frames and an additional 42 will have partial timber replacements. This is good news for tenants as these new windows will give them the benefit of warmer homes and lower fuel bills.”
