Work to start on repairing local roads

Work is to begin soon on badly damaged roads in parts of north Armagh, according to Sinn Fein Cllr Fergal Lennon.

He said resurfacing and remedial work will be carried out in Ardmore, Derrytrasna, Derrymacash and also the Church Road.

Cllr Lennon received a letter from the Infrastructure Deparment stating: “In addition we are currently assessing and prioritising a list of rural roads for resurfacing within the area that will be funded through the Rural Roads Initiative welcomed by Minister Hazzard.”

Cllr Lennon also sought assurances from Transport NI that work would be carried out on roads in the Derrytrasna area which had been marked out, prepared and sign posted for resurfacing in the April/May period. Transport NI responded:

“The signage informing of road work is in advance of our Surface Dressing treatment planned for the area. The contractor is currently in the Banbridge area and when completed intends to move to the Derrytrasna area.

Meanwhile Upper Bann MLA Catherine Seeley has raised the Kilvergan Road, Charlestown Road and Derrymacash Road with the minister, particularly for a footpath on the Kilvergan Road.
