Work to start on three rail bridges

Work to refurbish and strengthen three rail bridges in Portadown is due to begin this month and will involve some road lane and footpath closures.

The work, being undertaken by Translink, will be on bridges at Castle Street and Woodhouse Street and the rail bridge spanning the Bann River.

Translink project manager Helen Halliday said, “This work is required to maintain the safety of the structures and ensure the smooth operation and longevity of these essential components of our rail infrastructure. The majority of the works will involve repainting the bridges, while some minor repairs to stonework and cleaning will also be undertaken.

“There will be some footpath closures for scaffolding and off-peak road lane closures on Castle Street and Woodhouse Street. There will also be some night time lane closures and track works, which will involve heavy rail engineering machinery.”

She added, “We would ask local residents to remind young people in their care of the potential dangers of trespassing or playing on or near railway property or around engineering sites. Local residents have been advised of the works and Translink would like to thank passengers for their patience.”

The works are expected to be finished by September.
