There have been a number of issues with the sewage pipes at the hospital recently.

Work will continue until mid-December and every effort will be made to minimise the disruption to patients and staff.

Unfortunately some disruption is still likely given the work required but there has been careful planning to allow all the necessary work to be carried as part of a phased approach.

Esther Gishkori, Southern Trust Director of Acute Services said: “Craigavon Area Hospital is over 40 years old and this essential work is necessary to upgrade the infrastructure and facilities in the hospital and address specific problems related to sewage.

“The work will be done on a phased basis and affected wards will be decanted to other designated areas in the hospital whilst this necessary work is carried out.”

Esther added: “The time spent on this project will be used wisely, as other ward upgrades like the nurse call bell system and cardiac telemetry system will also be completed and this will help prevent further disruption in the future.

“Whilst every effort will be made to minimise the disruption caused by this work, I would like people using the hospital to be aware of the potential disruption and I would also like to thank them for their continued understanding and support for our efforts to improve the hospital.”
