Worker stole from PC World

A MAN who stole money from his employer has been ordered to complete 200 hours of community service.

James Quilty, of Stewarts Terrace, pleaded guilty to dishonestly making a false representation to cause a loss to PC World between January 12 and May 5 this year.

A previous court hearing was told the 29 year-old had worked in the refund department of the computer store and instead of refunding money to the companies account, he refunded it to his own bank account.

In total he stole 350 from PC World, although Londonderry Magistrates Court heard Quilty has since made full restitution.

Imposing the community service order, District Judge Barney McElholm said the starting point for "breach of trust cases" was usually a custodial sentence.

However, the judge said "taking everything into account" in Quilty's case he was prepared to impose community service.
