Mr Milne said he had a conservation with Mark Cuskeran, managing director of SDC, regarding the trailer firm being bought in a multi-million pound deal.

“I raised the concerns of workers regarding the acquisition and was pleased to be informed that plans are in place to consolidate the company’s position and increase its export sales,” he said.

“During my discussion with Mr Cuskeran, I pressed the need for workers to be assured that they have significant opportunities in terms of their continuing employment.

“I am pleased that he has allayed any concerns that workers may have had as well as mentioning the exploration of new markets particularly in the Middle East, a drive for innovation and the company’s intention to grow the workforce.”

SDC was founded in 1978 and now employs more than 900 people across four plants, including three in Northern Ireland and one in Nottinghamshire.
