The staff - from Derry City Council’s Environment and Development departments - picked up their certificates after completing a comprehensive ten week National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) health and safety programme delivered by JMD Training. The certificate covers the main legal requirements for health and safety in the UK. The Council recently became the first local authority in Northern Ireland to achieve the OHSAS 18001 standard in the area of Health and Safety management across its three council directorates.

Town Clerk Sharon O’Connor, said the Council continued to be extremely proactive in training its staff in the area of Health and Safety.

“I would like to congratulate all those who have completed the recent NEBOSH training programme,” she said.

“We have made health and safety a key priority, safeguarding staff and customers and maintaining high standards of service. Equipping employees with the essential skills and knowledge to maintain a high level of safe operations is invaluable and I would encourage other organisations to consider signing up for the course,” she continued.
