Workers’Party element gone
The departure of the ex-Labour Party leader Pat Rabbitte from Cabinet marks the exit from the Dublin Government of the last remaining former member of the Workers’ Party, an offshoot of the Official wing of the Republican movement.
Last week Mr Rabbitte was replaced as Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Minister by party colleague Alex White.
Announcing his anticipated cabinet reshuffle last week Taoiseach Enda Kenny also confirmed that he had accepted the resignation of former Foreign Minister and Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, another former member of the Workers’ Party.
