Strand Presbyterian Church opened its doors in 1848 with the Buncrana congregation amalgamating with it in 1975.

Planners have now received a request for permission to carry out: “Internal works to hall and replacement of window with door opening out onto Patrick Street.”

Over 600 people attended the final service in Second Derry and Buncrana in 2010.

The final service was presided over by the Moderator of the Presbytery, Rev Dr Brian Brown, and the preacher was the Moderator of the General Assembly at the time Rev Norman Hamilton.

Second Derry was originally formed in 1780 and worshipped initially at small church off Fountain Street, moving to Strand Road in 1848.
