Workshops for Mid Ulster firms to have their say on region’s economic plan

Organised by Mid Ulster District Council, a total of three workshops, encompassing 12 individual sectors, from retail and tourism to construction and manufacturing, are being held to seek the views of businesses.

The events are part of a comprehensive consultation programme to create a two year economic development plan for the new Council, which will assume responsibility for the existing Cookstown, Dungannon and Magherafelt council areas from April 1, 2015.

Having placed economic development as one of its top priorities to drive the region’s future prosperity, the Council will use the outcome of all its consultations to develop measures to strengthen the region’s economic and business potential at national, European and international levels.

Councillor Frances Burton, Chair of Mid Ulster District Council’s Development Committee said: “Identifying the needs and priorities of our local businesses is crucial to ensure that the Council’s economic development plan reflects the requirements and aspirations of local enterprise. The workshops are an ideal opportunity for local businesses to highlight the key issues affecting them and to have their say on the types of support they will require.

The workshops take place from 7pm to 9pm on:

Monday 29 September, Magherafelt Council Offices, for the construction, manufacturing, professional services, retail and tourism sectors.

Wednesday 1 October, Burnavon Theatre, Cookstown, for the manufacturing, food, retail, professional services and digital media sectors.

Thursday 2 October, South West College, Dungannon, for the engineering, construction, renewable energy, tourism and food sectors.
