Workshops to receive funding

TWO local community groups have been awarded grants totalling almost £1000 from Larne council towards upcoming events.

The Weavers, which holds weekly meetings at Moyle Hospital, received funding to the tune of £500 to help host a new workshop.

The project is expected to last between four-six weeks and aims to promote arts and crafts in the borough. The group hopes to invite local primary school pupils to the event, which is due to begin in April.

Meanwhile, Larne Inver Park Social Kids was awarded £475 for a project called The River Story, which is designed to help children learn about arts and heritage in a fun and informal way.

The initiative will provide workshops in printing, print making and collage for children aged between seven-11, who will learn about the role that the Inver River played in society. Art work will then be prepared on linen to help represent the important role the fabric has played in the area.
