World Host status for hospitality providers

Staff at a number of hospitality providers in Carnlough and Glenarm have received specialist training in top-quality customer service.

Qualifications were presented at an awards ceremony in the Walled Garden Tea Room, Glenarm Castle, at the end of the programme delivered by Jean Haworth, World Host trainer.

World Host is widely perceived as a global leader in customer service and has been brought to the Province by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board in partnership with the sector skills council, People 1st, to help raise service quality to international standards.

Newly accredited accommodation providers are the Londonderry Arms Hotel, Castleview B&B, Barbican Gate, Whitehill Caravan Park and Upper Deck Self Catering; hospitality and leisure providers including Harbour Lights, McKillops Ice Cream, Traditional Ice Cream Trike, Glenarm Castle Events and Walled Garden Tea Rooms took part in a world class customer service programme and achieved World Host Customer Service certificates.

The certificates were presented by Kathleen McBride, the Tourist Board’s destination manager for the Causeway Coast and Glens area. Kathleen commended the businesses for taking the opportunity to help set their businesses a step ahead of others.

Jean Haworth said: “Customer service is a vital part of the visitor experience and this is an excellent opportunity for businesses to develop their skills to enable them to deliver world-class service excellence.”

For businesses in the tourism, hospitality, leisure and passenger sectors with less than 250 employees the training programme is 90 per cent funded by the DEL for participants who have direct engagement with visitors.
