Worshippers targeted in ‘hate crime’

Police confirmed this week they are treating the incident as a hate crime and are appealing for anyone who witnessed it, or who has any information which may help in the investigation, to come forward.

Police reported that some time between 7pm and 7.30pm, leaflets containing what is described as “offensive” material were placed on cars belonging to people attending a service in St MacNissi’s Church, Agnew Street.

Similar leaflets were also taped to the doors of the parochial hall in Victoria Road.

Larne Mayor, Cllr Gerardine Mulvenna said that incidents like this had to be stopped

“Just a few weeks ago there was a hate crime against a Polish family in Glenarm in which their home was targeted and which could easily have ended up in a tragedy. This sort of thing has to be nipped in the bud.

“There’s no place for this in any society. We are trying to build good relations and we cannot just sit back and let this happen,” she said.
