Would you like to establish a Health Walking Group?

The Neighbourhood Renewal Health Coordinator has linked in with the Physical Activity Coordinator for the Northern Trust to organise a Walk Leaders training course in the Coleraine area.

The one day training course is aimed at paid staff or volunteers who are interested in developing a local Health Walk Group. These are low level, short walks and are aimed at encouraging people who are fairly inactive to engage in regular physical activity. The programme is supported by the Public Health Agency and all those who complete the training programme will receive free insurance cover.

The training course is very practical and covers the health benefits of walking, route planning, assessing risks, promotion and advertising of a walk programme and engaging people with special conditions. There are approx. 50 walking groups within the NHSCT area and over 600 walk leaders. The Walk Leaders are supported by a local Physical Activity Coordinator who organises update training and network events.
