Police are investigating criminal damage caused to poppy wreaths at the Cenotaph on Quay Road, Ballycastle.
Sat 15th November 2014...Wreaths at Ballycastle cenotaph have been destroyed in a overnight attack at Quay Road in the Seaside town. The RUC GC wreath was completely destroyed and a numbe of other ones were damaged. Police are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious to contact them on the non emergency number 101. The damage, which is being investigated as a hate crime, is thought to have happened sometime between 10:30pm on Friday 14 November and 12:30am on Saturday 15 November.

Inspector John Allen said: “Initial investigations indicated that the damage may have been caused by wind. However, our officers had a second look at the wreaths and we are now clear that it is criminal damage.

“We also believe that there were a number of rowdy individuals in the area late on Friday night into the early hours on Saturday morning. If you saw suspicious activity in the area at that time, please contact Moyle police on the non-emergency number 101.”
