‘X men’ fans queue for wrap on the wrist

Lisburn residents have been queueing up for a ‘wrap’ on the wrist to make sure of a place in Wallace Park for next week’s Freedom of the City concert by X-Factor finalists Rough Copy and Luke Friend.

The open-air concert (from 3-6pm on Saturday April 26) is part of the celebrations for voluntary uniformed youth organisations, upon whom freedom of the city will be conferred earlier in the day, ahead of a 2.30pm parade from the Civic Centre through Queens Bridge, Queens Road, Seymour Street, Castle Street and Railway Street to the Magheralave Road entrance to Wallace Park.

It’s wristband-only admission for the public and the concert wristbands were distributed this week at the Lagan Valley LeisurePlex, Lisburn and Brook Activity Centre, Twinbrook.

“Rough Copy and Luke Friend have a really strong fan-base here in the city,” said Lisburn City Council Leisure Services Committee chairman, Alderman Paul Porter, “and we wanted to arrange a concert primarily for our young people who, after all, are our guests of honour; I am delighted by the public’s response so far,”

Lisburn Mayor, Councillor Margaret Tolerton, said the Freedom of the City was a special occasion she hoped the people would support.

“I hope that we can all show our appreciation to all the youth organisations on parade next Saturday before enjoying the live performances in Wallace Park,” she said.

Public admission to the concert will be via the Belfast Road entrance to Wallace Park; gates open at 2pm and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Updated information about any remaining wristbands (which will be distributed at the LeisurePlex, the Football Factory, Lisburn and Brook Activity Centre) will be available on the Council’s facebook page www.facebook.com/LisburnCityCouncil or by calling the concert hotline - 028 9250 9557.

“We want as many people as possible to enjoy our family concert,” said Alderman Porter. “We look forward to seeing you there.”
