Year ten Beth's Dutch hopeson ice after plane grounded

A year ten Carrickfergus College pupil was left disappointed after plans to take part in an international sports tournament were dashed.

Beth Chalmers who is part of the Northern Ireland Under 17 Girls’ Squad had been due to play three clubs from Holland.

Beth had been a passenger on board an Easyjet flight from Belfast to Amsterdam which was cancelled after an airport vehicle accidentally hit the aircraft during boarding.

She was one of 35 members of the Northern Ireland Girls under 17 and under 19 football squad which was due to take part in the tournament.

The passengers had to be offloaded and the flight was cancelled.

Beth said: “I was really disappointed not to get to play in Holland and our manager queued in the airport for three and a half hours with no information and we couldn’t be accommodated on any other flight.”

The college hopes Beth gets some more international sporting opportunities soon.
