‘YES’ to youth scheme

Ballymena Councillors have confirmed their support for the Youth Employment Scheme (YES).

They did so at their February monthly meeting, last Monday night, after hearing that 46 of 118 young people who availed of a placement through YES in North Antrim had gained permanent jobs.

The figures were revealed in a recent answer in the Assembly to a query about the success of the scheme from DUP MLA for North Antrim, Mervyn Storey.

In Northern Ireland, the scheme is designed to give help and support to young people looking for permanent work.

Those aged between 18 and 24 qualify for YES which involves a work experience placement with an employer.

Council went on to support the view put by their Chief Executive, Anne Donaghy, that “These schemes are a real way of getting our young people into employment”.
