Yet anothercycling boost

ANOTHER top cycle event is coming to north Antrim.

The world-famous Giro d’Italia is lined up for next year but now the Curadmir Ulster Cycle is set to pass along the Coast Road in 2014.

The organisers say it is not a race but an endurance event with the aim being to finish the 360 mile route.

It is anticipated the event will attract hundreds of people to the area.

Independent councillor Padraig McShane said north Antrim is becoming more popular for cyclists and said more marketing should be done in future.

Cllr Colum Thompson (Sinn Fein) said cycling is the current buzzword and he said the event will provide a boost to the local economy.

Council Chairperson, Cllr Cara McShane (Sinn Fein), claimed that despite a lack of promotion of tourism in the Glens and the “blatant ignorance” of the area shown by the Tourism Board that it was significant that top events like this are still being attracted to the region.
