Young ambassadors visit Brussels

YOUNG ambassadors from Lurgan visited Brussels on a trip hosted by Ulster Unionist MEP Jim Nicholson.

The trip, organised by SELB Youth Officer Eamon Fleming who is linked to Lurgan Town Project, brought the young people to the heart of the European Parliament.

It was a journey designed to broaden the young people’s knowledge and insight into the political structures of Europe through visiting and touring the Parliament buildings.

It is hoped that they could learn the workings of the European parliament and have an impact on youth work in Lurgan.

They were met by MEP Jim Nicholson and Ulster Unionist Cllr Colin McCusker.

“It was a pleasure to meet up with the Lurgan Ambassadors and their Leaders and let them see around the European Parliament,” said Cllr McCusker.

“Since joining Craigavon Council I have made a very conscious effort to engage with the youth of the borough, and this was just another part of that work. It was also very useful for the young people to meet Northern Ireland’s longest serving and most experience member of the European Parliament.

“Jim’s influence in Europe is immense and he is held in the highest regard by some of the most powerful people in Europe.

“I was particularly impressed at the amount of questions posed to Jim, which demonstrated the level of interest the young people had in the political process. I would to commend the young people and the Lurgan Town Project and I look forward to working with them in the future.”
